The Indy Eleven is a tenant of IUPUI’s Carroll Stadium. The Indianapolis based professional soccer team is entering their fourth season playing in the NASL and are offering IUPUI students and faculty season tickets at a discounted price.
During the team’s first three years of existence, the Indy Eleven consistently recorded attendance numbers better than almost every other team in the North American Soccer League.
The numbers have proved Indianapolis has the soccer fan base to support a professional team, and although an MLS expansion may be in the near future, the Eleven are still coming up with new ways to attract fans.
In the offseason the franchise unveiled a new season ticket package exclusively for IUPUI. The Eleven will open home match play Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
According to Scott Stewart, content and social media coordinator for the Indy Eleven, the 2017 IUPUI package includes a season ticket for five dollars a game, with all staff, faculty and students eligible for the promotion.
This promotion further enhances the relationship between IUPUI and the Indy Eleven.
“Attracting students to Indy Eleven games has always been a point of emphasis for the organization,” Stewart said. “And we are constantly striving for the best way to grow this number.”
IUPUI and the Indy Eleven have been tied at the hip since 2013 when the soccer franchise and university came to an agreement, allowing the Eleven to play their home games at IUPUI’s Carroll Stadium.
Since, the relationship has always been a positive one, and both parties hope it continues to grow.
“We really do think of this as a collaboration,” Mark Volpatti, IUPUI interim vice chancellor, said. “We continue to grow our relationship better and better.”
Over the past four years IUPUI has thrust themselves into the professional sports spotlight, and also benefited from the improvements the Eleven have made to Carroll Stadium.
“It’s a great privilege to bring professional sports to campus,” Volpatti said. “Over the last four years they have done a lot of capital improvements that we are the benefactors for.
The Indy Eleven have always made it a focal point to keep the relationship between them and the university a rich one, and they hope that will continue.
“The relationship has always been a positive one as we have only been encouraged by what we’ve seen in the past,” Stewart said. “We are definitely looking to continue strengthening the ties we already have with IUPUI and look forward to our relationship blossoming in 2017 and beyond.”
While the Eleven fully expect to see record-breaking crowds attend games in the 2017 season, they are always looking for ways to better the experience.
“We do not believe there has been a drop off in student attendance,” Stewart said. “But instead we are looking for the best ways to reach students and staff alike – whether through signage, events, or promotions – to make Carroll Stadium an even better place to take in professional soccer in 2017.”
