IUPUI women’s golf has picked up their first tournament win since March 2021. On April 16 and April 17, 2023 the jags won Lady Jaguar Invitational in Carmel, Indiana.
“Winning at home is always a good feeling, we have been working towards a win all season so to finally accomplish that was very rewarding,” Pape said. “Knowing that we are capable of coming out on top will only boost our confidence moving forward.”
IUPUI finished with a +35 and a score of 611 which was six points better than second place Cleveland State. This was due to the play of Junior Annaliese Fox, Graduate Student Kara Blair, and Junior Madeleine Pape. There were contributions all around, and the team came in with a must-win attitude and got the job done.
“Before each day, the coach outlined a few goals regarding attitude and how we carry ourselves on the course,” Pape said. “Those goals did not focus on the score, but instead the other mental factors that contribute to playing good golf, and we just tried to be relaxed and focused, taking all challenges as they came.”
Fox golfed a 73 on day one and a 75 on day two. That would equal to a +4 which would tie three other golfers for first place in the tournament. Blair finished with a +6 after golfing 73 and 77 the two days. One big star was the fact that IUPUI had two Birdies in the tourney out of three of every team. Pape and Freshman Reagan Sohn were the ones who would achieve this feat. Fox also tied for first with 6 birdies and Sohn, Junior Ally Stuckey, and Junior Shelby Busker each had 3. Par 5 scoring was one of our best with five golfers in the top 20. Fox, Blair, Sohn, Pape, and Sophomore Nerea Loncho were the ones to round this out. Lancho also led the team in Pars and was second for the tournament with 26. Par 4 and Par 3 scoring were not our best scores but Lancho was 4th in Par 3 with a +1, and Fox was tied for 5th for Par 4’s with a +5.
“Leading in Par 5s was a big contribution to our win, we achieved this by sticking to the game plan that we developed throughout the week,” Pape said. “Letting things happen instead of forcing them to happen was a huge part of the win.”
This tournament win ends a drought for the season of a high finish. Before this win their best finish this season was 3rd of 7 at the Saluki invitational where Fox would finish behind two Belmont golfers with a total score of 223 and a +7.
“Ultimately the end goal is to win the conference and advance to the NCAA regionals, and we are working as hard as we can to accomplish this goal,” Pape said.
On April 21, the Horizon League Championship begins, and IUPUI looks to capture that trophy, and come out on top.

Undergraduate Student Government Addresses Underutilized Funding and Disconnect from Campus Organizations

According to their site, USG provides a platform for student involvement, while providing education surrounding social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion. While USG does provide support to students, their $85,000 budget for the 2022-2023 school year has been underutilized, diluting the impact the organization could be making at IUPUI. There is a fundamental disconnect between USG and the needs of organizations at IUPUI, one that USG acknowledges themselves.
