IU Indianapolis has hired former University of Indianapolis head coach Paul Corsaro to be the new Men’s Basketball Head Coach.
Corsaro graduated with an MBA in Communications from UIndy in 2014 and was named IUIndy's head coach in 2020. He originally was their assistant from 2012-2018 before moving to Purdue Fort Wayne as an assistant under Jon Coffman. Corsaro then returned to UIndy as head coach where he spent three seasons with a cumulative record 79-37 and made an appearance in the NCAA DII tournament.
Corsaro takes over a program at IU Indianapolis that has not been successful in recent history. Former IUPUI men's basketball coach Matt Crenshaw's tenure left a lot to be desired with a 14-79 record in the past three seasons before his termination. IU Indianapolis is also rebranding off of the popular IUPUI name after the big split from Purdue.
With the State announcing 90 million dollars funding for an IUI arena, Corsaro will be walking into an opportunity to attract new players with the potential of being in a brand-new arena. The Jags currently play in Indiana Farmers Coliseum, about a 15-minute drive away. With the new stadium on campus, students will have the opportunity to support their team by walking a few minutes on campus.
"We will win. We will win quickly,” Corsaro said in a statement published by IUI. “We will win the right way – the ethical way. And we will make the city of Indianapolis proud of the Jaguar basketball program."
