Students still have time to register to vote, but the deadline is coming up fast. Even if you hail from a different county or out of state, you can still vote in Marion County

Indiana residents have until Monday, Oct. 7 to register to vote. If you want to cast a ballot on Nov. 5 in Indiana, here are the steps you can take to prepare.

Prerequisites to registration

  1. Have a valid Indiana Driver's License or Indiana State Identification Card.

  2. Be a citizen of the United States.

  3. Be at least 18 years old on or before the next general, municipal or special election. (A 17-year-old may register and vote in the primary election if the voter turns 18 on or before the next general or municipal election.)

  4. Have lived in your precinct for at least 30 days before the next general, municipal or special election.

  5. Not currently imprisoned after being convicted of a crime.

  6. Ensure you have your driver's license number and all current address information on hand as you will need it during the completion of this process.

Check your registration status

If you’ve previously registered to vote or want to confirm that your registration is correct, you can check your registration status by selecting “Check Your Registration Record.”

Registering online

Students can register online by visiting the Indiana Voter Portal and clicking “Apply Now” under the “Register to Vote” tab. This application process must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 if you intend to vote on Nov. 5.

Registering in person

If you want or need to register to vote in person, it must be done at your county’s registration office by the close of normal business hours on Monday, Oct. 7. The Marion County office is located at 200 E Washington St Ste W131, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

Registering by mail

Voter registration mail-in forms can be found on the Indiana Secretary of State’s website to be downloaded, at your local DMV branch or, in Marion County only, at any public library. The completed form should then be mailed to your county’s election office. You should try to mail your registration forms at least one week prior to the Oct. 7 deadline (Monday, Sept. 30).
