The Indiana Fever have hired Indiana native, Stephanie White as their new head coach. White has spent the past two seasons with the Connecticut Sun. White went 55-25 with consecutive semifinals appearances with the Sun and won WNBA Coach of the Year in 2023.
White is not new to the Indiana culture or Fever franchise. She is from West Lebanon, was Miss Indiana Basketball in 1995 and then played her college career at Purdue University where she led the Boilermakers to the 1999 NCAA Championship.
White was acquired by the Fever ahead of their first season in 2000. She sits in the top 20 in franchise history with most games played, assists, steals, and three-point field goals made.
From 2011 to 2014, White spent four seasons as assistant coach for the Indiana Fever, notably helping lead the Fever to their first WNBA Championship in 2012. After being assistant coach, White then became head coach for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. She had an overall record of 37-31 with a 6-6 playoff record. During her time as head coach, she led the team to the 2015 WNBA Finals and 2016 postseason berth.
Between her time with the Fever and the Sun, White was head coach at Vanderbilt University. She spent five seasons with the University before being hired in Connecticut.
White is coming in at a pivotal moment for the franchise after coming off their first playoffs since 2016. With Cailtin Clark and Aliyah Boston on the roster, White is looking to lead the Fever to another championship.
“This franchise has and always will be committed to winning and I look forward to working every day to help deliver another WNBA title to the greatest basketball fans in the world,” White said during her first press conference as head coach.
