Tis the season: "Meet Me Next Christmas"

It’s the season for holiday movies and nothing captures Christmas magic like a festive rom-com.  Christina Milian, a longtime favorite for the holiday genre. Milian is no stranger to spreading holiday cheer on-screen, having previously starred in Christmas classics like “Christmas Cupid,” “SnowGlobe” and “Memories of Christmas.  Now, she is back with “Meet Me Next Christmas,” a new festive delight, streaming on Netflix that continues their Christmas legacy. Featuring Devale Ellis and Kofi Siriboe, this film is packed with seasonal cheer, humor, and music, making it the perfect escape from the end-of-semester stress. 

The story begins with Layla (Christina Milian), a hopeless romantic who meets James (Kofi Siriboe) by chance, only to lose him and leave their reunion up to fate. After things take an unexpected turn, she realizes her last chance to see him again is at a sold-out Pentatonix Christmas concert. She enlists the help of Teddy (Devale Ellis), a charming concierge who goes above and beyond to help her secure the converted concert tickets. What begins as a simple quest becomes a whirlwind adventure, complete with laugh-out-loud mishaps, touching moments, and surprising realizations. Along the way, Layla and Teddy connect and fall for each other. 

The movie takes an unexpected turn when James, to whom she’s promised herself, fails to recognize her when she confesses her love for Teddy(Devale Ellis)  outside the Pentatonix concert arena. 

The actors skillfully bring their characters’ emotions to life, making it impossible not to cheer for their journey toward a well-deserved happily ever after. This supporting cast, including Pentatonix, an acapella group known for their unique arrangements of songs and exceptional vocal abilities, is equally as impressive and adds standout moments that make the movie unforgettable. Pentatonix’s role in the film is an exceptional feature, as they follow the story of Layla and Teddy while elevating the story with their unmistakable acappella sound. The Grammy-winning groups don't just make an appearance; their music becomes a focal point in the narrative, weaving emotion into every scene. Their Christmas performances provide a festive backdrop, perfectly underscoring pivotal movements in Layla’s journey, from heartfelt scenes of self-reflection to playful romantic exchanges, until Layla and Teddy join them on stage for the final moments.

In addition, Pentatonix performed holiday classics and contributed to an original piece for the movie, titled “Meet Me Next Christmas” The song captures the movie’s theme of love, joy, and hope in the unexpected. 

The group's involvement in the story brings an extra layer of charm and authenticity as they genuinely enjoyed being part of this holiday film. Their excitement about the project has been evident across their social media. The group has been sharing stories and offering fans. In one post hinting at their new song and posting the trailer featuring Milan and Ellis, glimpses into their experience on set all while advertising their town for the upcoming holidays. 

At its heart, “Meet Me Next Christmas” is about hope and second chances. Layla’s journey reflects optimism that something beautiful is out there, even if it's truly in front of our eyes. Teddy's unwavering dedication reminds us of the power of generosity during the Christmas season.  With its heartwarming storyline that takes unexpected turns with stellar performances and a festive soundtrack, this movie is a must-watch during the holiday season.
