OPINION: An experience at the Battle on the Bricks

Through the weekend of Sept. 19-22, the IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) Weathertech Sportscar Championship, America’s premier sportscar series, landed at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). Several hundred fans from around the country came to see, and I was one of them.  If I were to describe the fan experience of a motorsport weekend, I would describe it as intimate. Motorsports offers a personal experience, which makes it special compared to the traditional stick and ball sports that dominate American culture.

BMW sweeps first and second after six hours around the IMS

After a rainy start to the six-hour Battle on the Bricks of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship, drivers Jesse Krohn and Phillip Eng led the No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8 to victory with their sister car in second, the No. 25 BMW driven by Connor de Phillippi and Nick Yelloly.  The 2024 IMSA Battle on the Bricks, held on Sept. 22, was the second time the Weathertech Sportscar Championship raced at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) since the championship’s inception in 2014. Still, this year’s race will be remembered for BMW’s first 1-2 finish in the GTP class since their debut in the 2023 season.
